I started playing drums at the age of 14 with a simple aspiration (paraphrasing my hero Jean-Paul Gaster): to play in a band that puts out quality records, and puts on quality shows. Not only am I grateful and appreciative of the opportunity to do so with my brothers in Slipknot — I am grateful to represent this genre alongside so many of my drumming heroes nominated in this category who share that same goal.
Our common experience — collaborating with our bandmates to try and create something unique, traveling tirelessly to every corner of the world to share it, and making human connections all along the way — is what makes us a community. By pushing ourselves, and encouraging each other, we allow this music to keep growing and evolving.
It’s the joy of a lifetime to share creative spaces with these incredible nominees — as we all continue to express ourselves, and search for answers within the sound.

It is truly an honor to be named Metal Drummer of the Year in the 2022 Modern Drummer Reader’s Poll. I distinctly remember being a teenager, buying my first copy of Modern Drummer Magazine at my local drum shop. It’s surreal and humbling to receive this recognition.
